We live life with constant rhythm, heart-pumping, blood-flowing, seasons and cycles turning, whether we will them to or not. Day-to-night, month-to-month, age-to-age.
The tick-tock and ebb-and-flow of our lives gifts us a backdrop of sound, pattern, light and feeling, predictable yet variable, highs followed by lows, then up again to experience some new delight or connection. The music of our bodies, our choices, our habits, the physical world in and around us and our planet, and the spiritual world within and beyond, all entangled in an eternal and timeless dance.
Most days we just drift with the current, hoping to enjoy the ride and appreciate the people we hold along the way. Sometimes we get to crack the code and see deep into the purpose and passion that drives us. As meaning dawns and yearning fades, we find our vision, and the colours, emotions, connections and solutions for a hope-filled tomorrow come into view.
Gallup's CliftonStrengths* describes one of my favourite Signature Themes this way: "People exceptionally talented in the Connectedness theme have faith in the links among all things. They believe there are few coincidences and that almost every event has meaning."
The Power and Edge of the theme is explained : "People strong in the Connectedness theme build bridges between people and groups, showing them how to relate to and rely on each other. They help others find meaning in the unpredictability of the world around them, providing a sense of comfort and stability in the face of uncertainty. Putting it simply, their ability to 'connect the dots' from the past, present and future can give others perspective, guidance and hope."
Sometimes we need to go with the flow, sometimes we need to fight the current, and sometimes we just need to wait for the turning tide. The trick is in knowing the difference!
